…spectacular fishing on a spectacular backdrop – the Great Barrier Reef – illustrated by Kelly’s photos…

Photos tell you the story of what you can expect to experience on a live aboard giant black marlin trip on the Great Barrier Reef north of Cairns.

It truly is a spectacular part of the world!

The specific part of the reef we are fishing along is called the “Ribbon Reefs” and is a hard breaking ‘ribbon’ of reef winding to the north between Cairns and Lizard Island. The reefs are numbered 1 to 10 the Number 10 Ribbon Reef, a massive 18 mile stretch of reef, the closest to Lizard Island.

The great benefit of course of the breaking reef is that we are fishing in deep water on one side, and the lagoon or lee-side creates a comfortable anchorage for overnight as well as morning swims and other activities.

A giant black marlin photo of the fish slicing through the beautiful blue waters of the Ribbon Reefs. A morning view of the reef breakers as the sun slips over the horizon.

The view from the tower as Luke survey’s the reef opening and the day ahead. Swimming in the crystal clear waters in the lee of the reef of our anchorage ahead of a day of giant black marlin fishing.

A big fish shows her size on the leader beside the boat.  The sunlight glints off the water’s surface as a fish breaches boat side. A big black marlin greyhounds across the lumpy deep waters towards the reef breakers.
